The story

About the Medieval Fair

The Medieval Fair — also known as the Medieval Fantasy Fair — is a one-day medieval and fantasy fair held near Johannesburg, run by Evo Events at Leopard Creek Equestrian, Benoni. Now in its third year, it returns on Saturday 8 August 2026, bigger than ever, and anchored by a noon parade of horses dressed in medieval style.

What the fair is

For one Saturday, an open field on the East Rand becomes another world. Knights fight in steel, makers trade from forty stalls, a riding school parades its horses in medieval dress, and the day moves from the morning's first archery to a drumming circle at dusk. It is built to be a proper family day out — immersive, specific, and comfortable for all ages.

What makes it different

Most medieval fairs borrow their spectacle. Ours is real: full-contact buhurt and judged longsword combat, a falconry display, and — found nowhere else in South Africa — Leopard Creek's own riding school dressing themselves and their horses in full medieval gear for the noon parade. It is the single attraction no other local event can claim.

Who runs it

The fair is produced by Evo Events, who also host a family of monthly night markets across Gauteng and beyond. Questions, partnerships and vendor enquiries: bookings@medievalfair.co.za.
