The Workshops
The Workshops are the hands-on heart of the Medieval Fair, where you can try the old trades yourself — the smith, the fletcher, the dyer and the scribe — rather than only watch. Potion-making classes start at 10:00 in Benoni on Saturday 8 August 2026.
Crafts at a medieval fair are usually behind a rope. Here they are at arm's length: take a turn at the bellows, fletch an arrow, dip wool in a dye vat, or letter your name with a quill. The craftspeople teach as they work.
The potion-making classes open the day at 10:00 and run in short sittings, so younger visitors can mix a 'potion' to carry home — one of the first things to queue for once the gates open. Sessions are first-come, so arrive early if a particular trade is on your list.
Everything here rewards curiosity over spectacle. If your family likes making things, plan to lose an hour in the Workshops.
Who it's for: Hands-on families and curious makers who would rather do the craft than watch it.
